The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • Not as good a deal as I thought - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I loved my Jeep when I first got it. About 4 months after owning it, I had a leak in the side pillars from the sunroof. It has been to the dealer 4 times for same problem. The last time the drain tubes were replaced and no problems. Guess what, its leaking again. Transmission leaked at 25K, but dealership fixed it. Had to replace the tires at 30,000 miles. I will never buy another Jeep again.

I bought my 05 Jeep new last Nov. At 27k I havent had too many problems. The transmission recall was fixed. My A/C has stopped working 2x, but started when I got to the dealership. My sunroof leaked very bad at 11k miles, and was diagnosed as "mis-aligned". The downshifts have always been too rough, & it hesitates when trying to take off after putting into gear. I had an 05 Explorer Limited before this, but my Jeep has a far superior ride and comfort. That being said, I was rear ended a few months back by a Tacoma going 70mph & was very surprised to find minimal damage ($4,700). The rear glass and tail-lights didnt even break. I havent had any problems since I have gotten it back.

  • Sorry, No More Jeeps - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Great in snow which is why I needed it in the first place but overall quality is awful. This is not my first Jeep but will certainly be my last (especially since the new models are ugly, expect Liberty). Going on the second set of brake rotors which Jeep will not pay for! Has only 12K miles in 1.5 yrs. Grinding noise over bumps in cold weather which no one can figure why; white tire lettering chipping away; transmission shifts with a huge jolt; performance is good; gas mileage is bad (but not why I bought it anyway). It is fun to drive but I can see vehicle aging very quickly.

  • Its been good to me - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

In the two years Ive owned it, Ive driven only 10,000 miles. I love the look and feel of this car, and I get positive comments too. The acceleration is good for an SUV. Youre not driving a BMW coupe. I have the V8. The ride is incredible when compared even to the Lexus RX. Not bumpy or jerky at all. The seats are very comfortable, even on 7 hour trip, and the high seats are great for driving. The only problems Ive had are the tire pressure lights coming on a couple times and the air conditioning, when all the way up, making a whistling sound over 55 mph. Otherwise, this car has been a gem. I only wish I could get more than 16mpg

This is my first Jeep ever. So far all is good, after reading all the reviews on the V6 engines looks like I am one of the lucky ones that does not have too much problem. I guess because my break in period was different. I drove this jeep like a sports car rigth away. I love the AWD capabilities of this jeep. The auto trani is slow when you mash the gas to the floor but thanks to manumatic shift, although there is about a second delay in shifting with a good timing it works just fine. Stability is very good, high speed lane switch is very stable it hugs curves like its on rail. The problem I had with the trani leaks recall was fixed right away by the dealer. I will upgrade to the SRT8 soon.

  • Its A Jeep Thing... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I LOVE THIS JEEP! I have been looking for a great truck most of the summer. When I saw what great deals they had on Grand Cherokees I was sold. I have the options I want. I have the color I want, Light Khaki. It has pretty good fuel economy (mid 15 mpg) in mostly city driving. Its the perfect size. Its not as big as a Dodge Durango or as bad on gas. I love the look of the interior and the contrasting colors. I love the standard safety features like Traction Control, with the 4x4 system, ABS and other creature comforts like average miles per gallon, miles till empty, miles till service and compass/temperature. I love the fabric of this cloth better then the normal cloth.

Gotta love the Hemi! Hard to stay off the gas. Nav system amazingly accurate and useful, but not intuitive to use. Fully equipped Limited has so many bells and whistles, quality time with manuals is required to set/operate. Also own 99 BMW540i 6-speed and 87 Porsche 944S 5-speed and will usually choose the Grand Cherokee for most drives; really defines "sport/utility" and something of a "stealth" vehicle in the black crystal pearl color. Could almost be called "poor mans" Porsche Cayenne, but is a much more attractive SUV!

Used to performance sedans. The 4x4 is a seductive temptress. Relaxed, calm as I drive it. Interior comfort is good, finish is good. The vehicle is well built, and what I want.
